The White Sox will trot out, Surprise! Surprise!, another rookie pitcher Wednesday. Pedro Hernandez, 23, made 12 starts in AA Birmingham, compiling a 2.75 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 68.2 IP. He was called up from AAA Charlotte, where he held a 3.75 ERA with 11 Ks over 12 IP.

Acquired in the 2011 offseason trade that sent Hard Hittin’ Carlos Quinten to the San Diego Padres, the left-handed Hernandez joined San Diego in 2007 as an 18-year-old. In the Dominican Summer League in 2008, Hernandez went 7-2 with a 1.42 over 63.1 IP.

Hernandez blossomed in 2011, pitching in all three levels of the Padres farm system. Over 116 IP, Hernandez accumulated a 3.49 ERA and 94 Ks.

The Venezuelan will make his Major League debut at 6:10 CST in Fenway Park against 9-4 Felix Doubront (4.41 ERA) in game 3 of a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox.
