Meet Adam Scott, the first round leader of The Open Championship. The 32-year-old Australian shot a 6-under-par 64. Perfect weather allowed 36 golfers to finish under par on Thursday in a notoriously difficult tournament. A runner-up in the 2011 Masters, Scott’s best wins include the 2004 Players Championship and the 2011 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

After bogeying the third hole, Scott birdied eight of the next 13 holes before bogeying on the 18th hole. Scott currently stands 51st on the 2012 PGA Tour Money List, which may not sound like much but is good for $1,180,899. He is the 13th ranked golfer in the world.

The former UNLV student turned pro in 2000, with his first significant win at the 2001 Alfred Dunhill Championship in Johannesburg on the European Tour. While Scott may not be well-known outside of golfing circles, he has eight PGA tour wins under his belt.

First round high scores rarely turn into Sunday victories, but Scott placed himself in strong standing Thursday. If asked before Thursday’s round how he would feel if knew he would have a 3 stroke lead on Tiger Woods, I am sure Scott would have said “I’ll take it.”
