3 Reasons the Kansas City Chiefs can win the AFC West.

  1.  Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis both rush for 1,000 yards in 2012. Jamaal Charles returns after going down in the 2nd game of the season in 2011 after tearing his ACL. Charles is expected to return 100% this season. With the signing of Peyton Hillis in the off season, the Chiefs backfield is as deep as it’s been in years. In 2010 Charles rushed for over 1,400 yards and Hillis for over 1,100. If the two can stay healthy, they should both get close to the 1,000 yard mark this season. Hillis and Charles are the key to the Chiefs success not only on the ground, but through the air. If the two backs can be successful, then Cassel should be able to return to his old form.
  2. Matt Cassel returns to his 2010 form. In 2010 Cassel threw for over 3,000 with 27 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions and it looked as though the former Patriot was on his way to being an elite quarterback. The 2011 season saw Cassel as well as many others go down with injury throughout the season. If Cassel can return to his 2010 form with a much improved receiving core in Jon Baldwin, Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breaston, and Devon Wylie look for the Chiefs to be balanced throughout the year both in the air and on the ground. With an improved backfield, great offensive line, and solid receiving core, I see Cassel making a huge comeback in the 2012 season. Look for Cassel to throw for 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns.
  3. Chiefs Will have a top 10 defense. In 2010 the Chiefs had the 11th ranked defense giving 21.1 points per game and 333.3 yards per game. They were 6th in passing defense giving up just 201.1 yards per game and 26th in rushing giving up 132.0 yards per game. In 2012 the Chiefs welcome back safety Eric Berry after missing all but 1 game last season. Their defense backfield should be close to tops in the league with Berry and Lewis as safety’s and Flowers, Routt, Arenus, and Menzie as cornerbacks. The Chiefs will need to improve their run defense if they plan on being able to take advantage of their great pass defense.I believe the Kansas City Chiefs can finish 10-6 on the season mainly because of their difficult start to the season. The Chiefs could surprise people and pull out of the NFC West with some lucky breaks.Chiefs Keys Games; Week 1- Falcons, Week 2- @ Bills, Week 3- @ Saints, Week 5- Ravens, Week 10- @ Steelers, Week 12- Broncos, Week 17- @ Broncos
