Deron Williams
The Brooklyn Nets 28 year old point guard just signed a 5 year 98 million dollar deal with the Nets instead of choosing the Dallas Mavericks, who couldn’t offer enough money for the all-star point guard. Last season for the Nets, Williams averaged 21 points, 8.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and .40% field goal percentage. To go along with his all-star stats, Williams also averaged 33% from three point land, and nearly 2 steals a game.
Joe Johnson
The former Atlanta Hawks 31 year old shooting guard signed a 4 year 89 million dollar deal with the Brooklyn Nets in the off season. Johnson averaged 18.8 points, 3.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 47% field percentage per game last season. Johnson also shot 38% from beyond the 3 point line, and 84% from the free throw line. Johnson is now into his 30’s and this 4 year contract could be his last chance to make a push with a quality team.
Gerald Wallace
Gerald Wallace has bounced around between Charlotte, Portland, back to Charlotte, New Jersey Nets, back to Portland, and then finally back to the new Brooklyn Nets all over the past 2 seasons. Wallace signed a $40 million dollar 4 year deal with the Brooklyn Nets in the off season. Wallace averaged 13.8 points, 2.8 assists, 6.7 rebounds, and shot 47% on the season for both the Nets and the Trailblazers. Wallace is now 29, and finally has a chance to play a key role on a playoff potential team in the Brooklyn Nets.
Brook Lopez
This was the Brooklyn Nets most shocking move in the off season, signing Brook Lopez to a year $60 million dollar contract. Lopez played just 5 games last season before breaking his ankle, ending his season. The Nets were in trade talks with the Orlando Magic for a number off weeks, not including all the trade talks before the deadline last season, but when the talks went south, the Nets instantly signed Lopez. Lopez averaged 19 points in the 5 games he did play, but for the Nets to sign him to a max contract coming off a huge ankle injury is a big risk to take. Hopefully Lopez can come back injury free and back to proving what he can potentially be when healthy.
Reggie Evans
The Brooklyn Nets signed 32 year old power forward Reggie Evans to a 3 year $5 million deal this off season. This deal doubles Evans previous salary of $854,389 dollar contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. Evans averaged 1.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and shot 47% on the season. Evans has not been a starter since 2008, and it looks as though he will again be coming off the bench for the Brooklyn Nets.
Mirza Teletovic
The Brooklyn Nets signed 6’9 Bosnian small forward Mirza Teletovic to a 3 year $9 million dollar deal. Teletovic played for the Caja Laboral the last 6 years, and last season the 27 year old averaged 21.7 points, 6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 43% field goal percentage, and shot 47% from 3 point land last season. Teletovic could really stretch the floor for the Brooklyn Nets, and could add to their already great 3 point shooting team. Hopefully his over seas play comes to the NBA.
Jerry Stackhouse
The Brooklyn Nets signed 37 year old veteran Jerry Stackhouse to a 1 year $1.3 million dollar contract. Stackhouse has averaged just around 4 points a game over the last 4 seasons with 3 different teams. This could be Stackhouse’s final season to prove their is something left in the tank of the traveled veteran. Stackhouse is far from his days of dropping 57 at the United Center back in 2001. Stackhouse could show some spark off the bench in short spurts.
Marshon Brooks
The Brooklyn Nets drafted Marshon Brooks in the 2011 draft and his rookie season impressed many inside the Nets management. Brooks is getting $1 million dollars a year, and averaged 12 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and shot 42% from the field in his rookie season. The 23 year old 2nd year combo guard from Providence has nothing but confidence, and could be a key role in the Nets run to the playoffs next season.
Tyshawn Taylor
The Brooklyn Nets got Tyshawn Taylor in a sign and trade with the Portland Trailblazers after Taylor was drafted 41st overall in the NBA draft. The guard from Kansas averaged 16.6 points, 4.8 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and shot 47.7% from the field his senior year. Taylor may have a little role with the Nets his rookie season, but could help with some luck.
So there you have it. This is your 2012-13 Brooklyn Nets roster. They have vastly improved their roster, but still have some question marks to answer this season. One being Brook Lopez health. Another being the ability of unknown names having to step into big roles. I do not believe the Nets have enough to contend for the title, especially after Miami improving their roster yet again this off season with the additions of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. Nets fans will have more to cheer for this season, but they will not win a championship this season.
