The brace-faced 17-year-old Beau Hossler has a chance to win the U.S. Open today. Entering Sunday +3 and four shots off the lead, Hossler was asked if he believed he could win the major championship.

“Absolutely. There’s not a doubt in my mind. Got to go out there and do everything right mentally and physically, but it’s definitely out there for me.”

Call it naivete or swag, but do not confuse it with arrogance. Tiger Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, shook Hossler’s hand Saturday and said that Beau had a chance to win it all.

The high school senior committed to University of Texas and idolizes Arizona State University product Phil Mickelson.

Hossler’s dad does not consider his son very athletic, he can’t run fast or jump high, but says he always possessed great hand-eye coordination. When he was 18-moths-old, young Hossler could consistently hit wiffle balls his grandmother tossed him.

Hossler stands at +3 through 2 on Sunday, which places him 12 strokes ahead of his hero Mickelson.
